Justin joined Decato Law Office in February 2011, bringing a broad mix of legal, business and technical expertise to the firm. He advises clients in multiple areas of business law, business formation and strategic business development; employment and immigration; intellectual property; environmental law; criminal law; torts; family law; and administrative law.
During the past dozen years, Justin has served in senior management roles in a number of high technology start-up companies and he is currently a founding principal with a new company building an e-marketplace for biomedical research services. Previously, he was a research scientist with the University of California, San Diego, a postdoctoral scientist at both the California Space Institute (working with astronaut Sally Ride) and at the Harvard School of Public Health, and founding Executive Director of the non-profit Environmental Science and Policy Institute. He has lectured at a number of universities and internationally and has authored research articles and book chapters on environmental science and policy topics.
Justin is a native of Barnard, Vermont. He started as a law clerk in 1976 with the firm of Dunne & Hershenson in Norwich, before becoming a licensed Vermont attorney. He is currently a member of the Bar in Vermont, Massachusetts, California and Colorado, as well as being a registered patent attorney with the U.S. patent and Trademark Office (since 1999). He earned a B.A. in American Studies from Lyndon State College, a J.D. from Vermont Law School and an M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of CA, San Diego. Justin was Vermont Junior Alpine Ski Champion in 1973 and later a professional ski racer and coach. He lives in Lebanon with his wife and their two daughters, while three older children are in college and beyond.
